As we are in the midst of spring, and entering summer, lemons are quite abundant! This is one of my favorite ways to preserve them for lemony goodness all year round.
I love to use these to decorate cakes of course, but they make great drink garnishes, or they can be ground up in a blender or mortar and pestle to create lemony spices, such as lemony salt, pepper or garlic powder!
They are also so sweet if strung into a garland to adorn your living spaces, gardens or altars!
This recipe is so simple and only requires one ingredient, I'll let you guess it ;)
ingredients:
lemons
or any of your favorite citrus!
instructions:
Preheat oven to 170 degrees F.
Slice lemons 1/4 inch thick. Try your best to cut each slice as evenly as possible so that they all dry equally.
Line a baking sheet with a cooling rack. Place lemons on the cooling rack and bake for 5 hours! Feel free to check on them during the last hour, they are done once the flesh looks like a stained glass window, and is dry to touch, and the rind is slightly darker and shriveled.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
